BoldWords privacy policy

BoldWords is a word puzzle game made by Nexellara LLP ("we"). This page explains what the game keeps about you, why, who helps us run it, and how to have it all deleted.

The short version

What we keep, and why

Your game. The first time you open BoldWords, our server gives your phone a random player ID. Linked to it we keep your progress: levels finished, coins, hints used, daily puzzle results and streak, and your settings (text size, sound, music). This is what lets the game remember where you are.

Signing in (optional). To play with friends you can sign in with Google or continue without an account. Google sign-in is handled by Google's Firebase Authentication, which receives your Google account's name, email address and profile picture. Our own server keeps only the Firebase user ID.

Your name (optional). A name you choose is shown to other players in friend duels, races and leaderboards. You can change it, and you can hide yourself from leaderboards, in the app.

Playing with others. Duels and races keep who took part and how each puzzle went. Live races pass the race between players through Google Cloud Firestore.

Reminders (optional). If you allow notifications, we keep your phone's notification token and your reminder choices, including the reminder time and your time-zone offset so a reminder arrives at the right local time.

How the game is used, and crashes. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to see how the game is played (for example which screens are opened and when a level is finished) and Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports. These collect app and device information such as app and installation identifiers, device model and Android version, and may use your phone's advertising ID.

Advertising. Some versions of BoldWords may show ads served by Google AdMob. When they do, AdMob may use your phone's advertising ID and device information to show and measure ads. In the UK and the European Economic Area we ask for your consent first, and Settings lets you change that choice. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.

Keeping the service safe. Our server sees your IP address with every request. We use it to limit abuse, and it may appear in short-lived technical logs.

Words Worth Knowing

Words Worth Knowing is the part of BoldWords that offers you a few new words each day.

What we keep, and why. Linked to your player ID we keep your starting point, the topics you chose, your answers and your words, so the app can choose your next words.

Your questions. Questions you type are answered by an AI model on our own server. They are never sent to another company. If you use Speak, your phone's own speech service (on most Android phones, Google's) turns your voice into text first. We keep your questions, with their answers, for 30 days, linked to your player ID.

Advertising. None of this is used for advertising.

Reports. If you report a word or an answer, we keep the report and any note you add for 90 days after it has been handled — read by a person or by our review model. A report about an answer is kept with the question, for 30 days.

Clearing it. In Words Worth Knowing, open Settings and choose "Clear my word history". Deleting your account, as described below, deletes it too.

Who helps us

We use Google services: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Cloud Messaging and Google AdMob. Google processes this information under its own privacy policy. We do not sell your information or share it with anyone for their own purposes.

Security

Everything the app sends to our server or to Google is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

How long we keep it

We keep your game data for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account we delete your player record and everything linked to it, together with your Firebase sign-in account, within 30 days. Analytics and crash data are kept by Google for a limited time and are not linked to your name.

Deleting your account

In the app, open Settings and choose "Delete my account", or follow the steps on our account deletion page.

Children

BoldWords is made for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

You can ask us for a copy of what we keep about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing admin@nexellara.com.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
